I have been in the mental health field for over 32 years, receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Human Resources Development from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan. After working for a few years, I decided to go back to school and obtained a Master of Counseling degree at the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist. After obtaining my graduate degree, I moved to Virginia and worked for 2 years as an in-home therapist, where I worked with families in crisis, going into their homes and provided individual and family therapy. In 2005 I was offered the opportunity to work in an out-patient agency and have remained in the out-patient psychotherapy setting ever since.
I am the owner of Schiller Counseling Services in Virginia Beach, VA providing marriage, family, and individual therapy. I am very active in my approach to therapy and encourage the same energy from my clients. I find being solution focused works to ensure my clients feel productive in session while also heard and understood.
I have specialized training in Emotionally Focused Couples Training, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), Internal Family Systems, substance abuse/addiction and Neurofeedback.
I have been married and have 2 amazing young adult children. While my marriage did not last, I know firsthand the work needed to keep a healthy relationship and what is involved when that marriage dissolves. I strongly believe my experience with divorce makes me a better marriage therapist and divorce coach.
Having raised my children, and having one live out of state, I know the joys of parenting and now what it is like to be in an “empty nester.” Parenting is the thing I am most proud and I love to help families positively interact.
You’ll often find be behind a book, as I am an avid reader and exercise is a daily part of my life. Yoga has become a daily practice; hiking and biking are frequent past times also.
